Take notice General Motors! The new concept version of the Camaro that is making its way to car shows throughout the United States is a true champion. Continue showing the car, but begin making plans for it to be built ... right now! Never, ever, make changes to the concept of this vehicle. GM is giving much thought to bringing back the Camaro. Quite possibly, if everything goes the way it's supposed to, a 2009 Camaro could be a reality. Keep reading for more interesting info.
During the late '60's, General Motors responded a bit late to the debut of the 64 1/2 Ford Mustang. An entire brand new style of cars had become available (pony cars), thanks to the Mustang as well as General Motor's release of the Pontiac Firebird and the Chevrolet Camaro. Chrysler and American Motors got in on the act with the Dodge Charger, Plymouth Road Runner, and the AMC Javelin competing in a popular segment of the automobile market.
Consumer preferences have drifted over the years, and unfortunately the Camaro did not keep up. GM dropped the ball on the Camaro, which led to its retirement in 2002, along with the Firebird. After 35 years, the history of the Camaro/Firebird ended bitterly.
The popularity of the Mustang, ironically, may be the saving grace for the re-emergence of the Camaro. GM decided to bring this model back due to the Ford Mustang's popularity. Instead of retiring the Mustang, like GM had done with their vintage vehicles, they gave it a modern day make over.
The Camaro that is currently making appearances all over the United States is a real contender. Similar in style to the '69 Camaro, the '09 Camaro is supposed to feature a 6.0 liter V8 engine, with a 6-speed manual transmission. The front wheels are 21 inches, and 22 inches in the back, but smaller wheels will probably come standard from the manufacturer. The interior of the new Camaro will match that of the older, more famous interiors.
With a V6 model also available, the retail price of a basic Camaro will be just under $20,000, which is a highly favorable price for a beautiful two-door coupe. Now if GM can be talked into building the concept car, the Camaro will give the Mustang some good competition, and keep the new (retro) Dodge Challenger from stealing Camaro devotees.
The enthusiasts will be proud of the re-emergence of the Camaro, and the new concept. Are you taking this information into account, GM?
