So do you think you know everything...

So do you think you know everything there is to know about cars? Well, think of this as a test about your knowledge of Pontiac history. Of the nearly two dozen Pontiacs featured in this section, there are a few current models, and many classic models, that represent the rich history of the company.

6000 - The 6000 was a quasi-full sized sedan in the 1980s that offered front wheel drive.

Aztec - Beaten with the ugly stick! This crossover car was an embarrassment to the Pontiac name for two years in the early 00s.

Bonneville - The Bonneville is a full sized sedan from Pontiac, which was retired in 2005 after being in production for 40 years. This became a provision of the massive restructuring that GM did when it chose to retire several top model names.

Catalina - In the mid 1960s, models like the Catalina that offered two door hard tops grew in popularity. It was discontinued during the late 70s when GM was going through some "down sizing".

Fiero - The Fiero, a mid-engine sport, with only two seats, was built during the go-go 80s. Engineers at GM took past pieces and parts of Chevette and other models to come up with this classic roadster.

Firebird - Many people have great memories of the "pony" car, the Firebird, and miss it profusely. Enthusiasts will be excited to know that by 2009, this model might be back again.

Firefly - The Firefly was a Geo Metro twin, with a Pontiac 3 cylinder transmission, in the late 80's to the mid 90's.

G6 - Pontiac currently offers the G6, which is a compact model that comes either as a coupe or a sedan.

Grand Am - First introduced to the market in 1973, the Grand Am rose through the ranks to become the divisions performance car of choice in the mid-range. This was officially retired in 2005, along with a variety of other Pontiac models.

Grand Prix - The Grand Prix debuted in 1963 with hidden tail lights and a beautifully concave rear window. After going through GM's massive model name changes, the Grand Prix has survived today to be a market leader as a front wheel drive sedan in the mid-size category.

GTO - The GTO first came into the market in 1967, after it was transformed from a coupe into a bonafide sports car option, The GTO is now back in production after being discontinued in the 1970s, as part of Holden, GM's Australian division. It not only touted rear wheel drive, but a V8 engine as well.

LeMans - The LeMans started out as a Tempest model but soon became an individual model when the Tempest name was retired to the shelves in the 1970s. It was retired in the middle of the 1990s following the permission of an inexpensive Korean car to hold the name. Can you believe it?

Montana - The Montana is a new fantastic minivan by Pontiac.

Parisienne - The Parisienne was a Pontiac version of the Chevy Caprice, made during the 1980s. This sedan, which was full sized and had rear wheel drive, was just right.

Phoenix - In 1979, the GM introduced the Phoenix as a model for 1980 as part of its X cars, which were compact import fighting vehicles.

Sunbird - The Sunbird is just a renewed version of the Chevy Cavalier.

Sunfire - The Sunfire is a compact coupe that was retired during GM's retiring rampage of 2005.

Sunrunner - Many feel the Sunrunner is little more than a repackaged Tracker from Geo/Chevy.

Tempest - Throughout much of the sixties until the early seventies, this coupe was a true "muscle car." It was especially nice when featured as a convertible!

Trans Sport - The Trans Sport minivan was a hideous vehicle of the early 1990s. Thankfully, this car was replaced in later years by the Montana.

Vibe - The cousin of the Toyota Matrix, the Vibe is a great new five door sport wagon.

So, that's it. There were also about six models that were omitted during this period of time, and there were also some models that had originated during the founding of the division when it was part of the Oakland Automobile Company in 1926. Have you experienced the exhilaration of owning a Pontiac?
